Dyllan Gabriel (b. New York City) is a research-based interdisciplinary artist whose work examines how queerness and desire move through images and objects. Working across painting, printmaking, and assemblage, Gabriel is drawn to materials that already carry touch, wear, and memory.
Gabriel begins with reference, moving between personal memory and public archives. He considers the meanings images and objects already carry, what remains unknowable about them, and how those meanings shift through attraction, projection, and recontextualization. Through cropping, layering, and repetition, he builds compositions that hold intimacy and performance in tension.
His works function as records of presence, preserving the gestures, colors, fantasies, and material traces through which a life becomes visible.
Gabriel received his BFA in Studio Art from New York University, where he graduated summa cum laude. His work has been exhibited in New York at Lichtundfire Gallery, Eleventh Hour Art, and 80WSE’s Broadway Windows, among others. Internationally, his work has been exhibited at St. Agnes in Berlin. In 2022, he collaborated with Spotify on its Culture Next Report, with work presented in London and at the Cannes Lions Festival.
